<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new carbonyl-reducing enzyme useful for producing an optically active alcohol. <P>SOLUTION: This new carbonyl-reducing enzyme having a property for reducing 2,3'-dichloroacetophenone to produce >90 % ee (R)-2,3'-dichloro-1-phenylethanol. A vector for expressing the enzyme, and a transformant transduced with the vector. A method for producing the optically active alcohol having a high optical purity.
