<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sorting garbage housed in a bag in which the bag can easily be sorted out from the garbage. <P>SOLUTION: This method for sorting the garbage housed in the bag is provided with: a tank 3 for receiving water and the object 2 which is to be treated and has the garbage 21 housed in the bag 22; a rotating body 32 arranged in the tank 3 for agitating the object 2 to be treated with water in the tank 3 and tearing the bag 22; a receiving part 6 for receiving the water overflowing from the tank 3 and; a water supplying pipe 7 for supplying water to the tank 3. Water is supplied to the tank 3 through the water supplying pipe 7. The rotating body 32 is rotated at the first water level so that the object 2 to be treated is agitated with the supplied water in the tank 3 and the bag 22 is torn by the rotating body 32. Then, water is supplied again to the tank 3 through the water supplying pipe 7 so that the water in the tank 3 exceeds the first water level and overflows from the tank 3.
