PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress string vibration without degrading power transmitting efficiency. SOLUTION: This silent chain 1 comprises a number of inside links 2 laminated in the directions of longitude and thickness and pivotally connected to one another via connection pins 3 and a guide link 4 arranged on the outermost side thereof. A protrusion 40 protruded in the direction of thickness is formed at the longitudinal center of the guide link 4. Shoulder portions 24 of the inside links 2 neighboring the guide link 4 in the direction of thickness ride over while interfering with the protrusion 40 of the guide link 4 during bending of the chain to the back side without interfering the protrusion 40 of the guide link 4 during bending of the chain to the meshing side. Thereby, thrust is operated between the inside links 2, 2 and friction force is then operated between the inside links 2, 2 to give bending resistance to the chain. Thus, the string vibration is suppressed by suppressing the bending motion of the chain to the back side without degrading the power transmitting efficiency. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
