PLURAL SCREW POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT MACHINES

A plural screw machine has a housing (1) in which intermeshing helically profiled rotors (6, 7) define working chambers of volumes, and thus pressures, which vary as the rotors rotate. To prevent a build-up of heat in the rotors, a small flow of evaporable liquid such as water is directed at portions of the rotors subjects to higher pressures. The flow rate of the liquid is too small to effect any substantial cooling of the gas through the machine.
