A safety system for an operator working on a raised platform, e.g. a 'cherry picker', has a backpack strapped to the back of the operator and fitted with a safety line which the operator attaches to the platform via a karabiner. The safety line provides protection if the operator falls off the platform. If the platform starts to tip over the operator simply pulls a rip cord, which removes a safety bolt between the safety line and a folded parachute. The parachute is pulled out of the pack by the safety line as the operator jumps from the falling platform. The parachute opens after falling about 6 metres and is fully open after 10 metres.
|
