Region detecting method and apparatus

The method involves obtaining extraction-region-identifying threshold data for sample images including a common extraction region but having average color values different from each other based on a genetic algorithm. The data is adaptively computed for a purposed image (11) based on the average color value and a relation between the thresholds. An extraction region is detected based on the computed threshold data. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a region detecting apparatus based on a threshold genetic deciding method (b) a person identifying method.
