The local network has a bridge terminal (57-60) that is connected to the sub-networks (53-56) alternately for the exchange of data. The bridge terminal has a temporary storage medium for the temporary storage of received data for a non-connected sub-network. The bridge terminal transmits temporarily stored data for a sub-network in the order of receipt once connected into that sub-network.
