Pneumatic expander comprises a longitudinal housing (2) containing housing chambers (13) extending in the longitudinal direction of the housing and forming an air storage chamber (15) and working chambers (14a, 14b) which are pneumatically coupled by a control valve arrangement (17), and operating units (4a, 4b) each having a compression piston (18) and a power input section (23) lying outside the housing. Preferred Features: One housing chamber formed as a control chamber receives the control valve arrangement. The control valve arrangement is formed as a self-supporting component fixed on the housing. The operating units protrude on opposing sides of the housing.
