A textile industry assembly winds a thread onto a spool (2) which is then released from the winder unit (1) for onward transport. the spool is raised by an overhead lift system (27) to a grip unit which is supported by the overhead rail (5) and powered. The rail-mounted sliding unit (7) moves on rollers and is advanced by an electric motor. The lift unit grips are applied by spring-operation and are subsequently released by pneumatic or electrical energy. When the spool is raised to maximum height, the grip is located in line with the mid-point of the spool lifting unit (7). The lift/transport motive power is supplied by electrical or pneumatic power connected either to the rail unit or spool lift/transport unit.
