A GMR magnetic sensing element includes a free magnetic layer 16 and a pinned magnetic layer 14. At least one magnetic layer is a Heusler alloy layer or includes a Heusler alloy sublayer. A nonmagnetic layer 15 is provided between the two magnetic layers 14, 16 and may have a face-centered cubic (fcc) structure. Equivalent crystal planes represented as 111 planes in the fcc structure, which are the closest packed planes, are exposed on the surface of the nonmagnetic layer 15. |
