The machine has an optical sensor (68) to send a signal indicating monitored condition of a crop chopped by forward edges of cutting blades to a monitoring device (42). A camera sends a signal indicating a gap between the edges and a counter-cutter to the monitoring device. The monitoring device initiates a sharpening device and an adjusting device based on comparison of the signals with respective target values.
