A disk drive is provided to dispose a base chassis on a front surface of a device body in parallel length direction, and to return a disk-type recording medium inserted from a disk slot in a direction orthogonal with the length direction of the base chassis, thereby more quickly performing a loading/unloading process. A read/write unit consists of a base frame and a read/write apparatus(11) received in the base frame. The read/write apparatus(11) comprises as follows. A base chassis(12) has various configuration members. A disk rotation driver(13) installed on the base chassis(12) rotates a disk-type recording medium. The first optical pickup apparatus(14) reads contents data recorded on the disk-type recording medium. A sub chassis(15) is installed on top of the base chassis(12). The second optical pickup apparatus(16) installed on the sub chassis(15) records and/or reads the contents data on and/or from the recording medium.
