An apparatus and a method for preventing an afterimage of an image device are provided to prevent an image crack and a transient phenomenon according to an afterimage prevention operation and prevent the afterimage on an OSD(On Screen Display) as well. A signal processing part receives a video signal from the outside and performs a signal processing operation so that display is made at a preliminarily set position on a screen. A display part displays the video signal outputted from the signal processing part on the screen. A control part controls the signal processing part so that a display start position of an image to be displayed on the display part can be changed according to an elapse of a set time period when an afterimage prevention function is turned on.
