An apparatus and a method for realizing a return channel of a television are provided to maximize user's convenience in channel switching by preparing a return channel function that enables a user to return to a desired channel easily at any time. When a return channel instruction is inputted during the search of a channel(S10), it is determined whether a return channel set in advance exists or not(S11). A current channel is set as the return channel and stored if the return channel set in advance does not exist(S12). It is determined whether switch to the set return channel is made or the current channel has to be set as the return channel if the set return channel exists(S20). The current channel is switched to the set return channel if the switch to the set return channel is made(S22). The current channel is set as a new return channel and stored if the current channel has to be set as the return channel(S21).
