[Also in Divisions B6 and G3] Transverse registering of a web, endless belt or metal strip is achieved with an idler or driven roller 1 over which the web 2 passes. The roller is journalled in bearings 5 and 6, each bearing being attached to the piston of an hydraulic cylinder 10 or 11. One cylinder 12 is supplied with a constant pressure. The other cylinder 11 is supplied with a variable pressure in dependence upon the transverse movement of the web 2. This transverse movement is detected by a radiation detector or photoelectric cell 30, the variable output of which is fed to a regulator 27. The output of the regulator, after amplification, arrives at an electric transducer 33 controllably connected to a pilot jet pipe 23. The pilot jet controls the supply of hydraulic fluid to a servomotor 20 which in turn controls a bleed valve 21 communicating with the hydraulic line 15 leading to the cylinder 11. Feedback is applied to the regulator 27 via conductor 31 and pressure transmitter 34 communicating with the hydraulic line 15 via line 26.</p> |
