<p>An apparatus and method for producing high-pressure hydrogen only by water electrolysis stably, efficiently, and safely even with power generated by natural energy such as sunshine without using a gas compressor. In the apparatus, a water-electrolysis cell using a solid polymer electrolytic membrane, particularly a bipolar stacked water-electrolysis cell having a specific structure, is placed in a high-pressure vessel in a hydrogen atmosphere containing generated hydrogen, preferably cooled hydrogen. Pure water is electrolyzed to produce hydrogen by this water-electrolysis cell while suppressing the pressure exerted on the water-electrolysis cell below the withstand pressure by using a differential pressure sensor and a pressure regulator, thereby producing high-pressure hydrogen.</p> |
