PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a low-temperature high-rate discharge characteristics, prolong the service life, preventing abnormal heating and simplifying a discharge device in a storage battery with less maintenance, by using pasted negative electrode plates for a vent-type nickel cadmium battery. SOLUTION: The storage battery has a multi-layered structure, wherein sintering type positive electrode plates are layered to be sandwiched by the pasted negative electrode plates with thicknesses of≤0.58 mm, and separators interposed between the electrode plates are made of polyolefin nonwoven fabrics formed of fabrics with thickness of≤0.12 mm and diameter of 9 to 20μm and fabrics with diameter of 1 to 5μm and a polyolefin porous sheet sandwiched by the nonwoven fabrics with thickness of≤0.03 mm, a hole area of≤0.005μm<SP>2</SP>and an air permeability of≥31 sec. The distance between the positive and the negative electrodes is to be set at≤0.3 mm, and electrolyte solution mainly containing sodium hydroxide is used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
