PERPENDICULAR MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a high medium S/N ratio without deteriorating a magnetic separation state of crystal grains. SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording medium is provided with a substrate, a soft magnetic layer formed on the substrate, intermediate layers formed on the soft magnetic layer and a magnetic recording layer formed on the intermediate layers. The intermediate layers are at least two layers and contain Ru or an Ru alloy and the magnetic recording layer consists of a material containing a CoCrPt alloy and oxygen. Crystal orientation can be enhanced without increasing diameters of the grains by specifying the half value widthΔθ50of a rocking curve of diffraction on the plane Ru(0002) measured by using an X-ray diffraction device to be≤5°.
