PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high recording density of a magnetic recording medium by suppressing deterioration in crystallinity due to thinness of a recording layer, without increasing the medium noise. SOLUTION: A base layer 2 consisting of Cr or a Cr based alloy, at least one first magnetic layer 4 consisting of a CoCr based alloy, a non-magnetic bonding layer 5, a non-magnetic layer 6 consisting of a Co based alloy and a second magnetic layer 7 consisting of a CoCr based alloy are layered successively on a non-magnetic substrate 1 and magnetization directions of the first and the second magnetic layers 4 and 7 in a residual magnetization state are made antiparallel to each other, while being bonded with exchange interaction is maintained.
