PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a Faraday rotor by using a magnetic garnet single crystal film grown by a liquid-phase epitaxial method, wherein the occurrence of cracks in the single crystal during growing and processing can be prevented. SOLUTION: The Faraday rotor 20 is manufactured by forming an NGG (neodymium-gallium-garnet) thin film 12 on a CNGG (calcium-niobium-gallium-garnet) single crystal substrate 10 to give a substrate 18 for growing a single crystal film, forming a magnetic garnet single crystal film 14 on the NGG thin film 12 of the substrate 18, removing the substrate 18 by polishing, and cutting the magnetic garnet single crystal film 14 into pieces in a specified size.
