<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly sense the presence of abnormality in a gas sensor. <P>SOLUTION: A control device determines whether the sense values of an element energizing current outputted from a current sensor over at least a plurality of times are a predetermined upper limit current or more at the operation start time of the gas sensor and, when the succeeding time of a state that the detection values of the element energizing current are the predetermined upper limit current or above, it is decided that each element of the gas sensor is abnormal.
