PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle, capable of improving responsiveness of speed change action in shifting gear ratios while maintaining changing performance of the speed change ratio to a target speed change ratio favorable in a stepped speed change mode. SOLUTION: This control device for a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle controls the speed change ratio of the continuously variable transmission 40 capable of continuously varying output of an internal combustion engine 2, and has a stepped speed change mode to set the speed change ratio at one of a plurality of prescribed gear ratios as one of speed change modes. It is provided with a gear ratio shifting means 3 to shift gear ratios when the stepped speed change mode is set as the speed change mode, a target speed change ratio setting means to set a target speed change ratio in accordance with the gear ratio after shifting, a speed change ratio control means 3, 46b to control to achieve the target speed change ratio as the speed change ratio, and a change speed control means 3, NTIPUD to control to set change speed of the speed change ratio into the target speed change ratio when the gear ratio is shifted to be larger than the change speed when the gear ratio is not shifted.
