PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a cosmetic for nursing hair having excellent depilation-preventing effect and hair-growing action on alopecia and to obtain a hair-growing agent excellent in effects such as growth of hair and nursing of hair, prophylaxis of depilation and prevention of dandruff. SOLUTION: The subject hair tonic comprises at least one kind of essential oil obtained from a resin squeezed from a leaf of Murraya koenigi of the family Rutaceae or a bark of Boswellia carterii Birdw, B. frereana Birdw, B. thurifera, B. papyrifera Hochst, B. bhaudarijiana Birdw, B. sacra Flueckiger, B. serrata or B. glabra of the family Burseraceae of the order Geraniales.
