PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently extract only paper money in specific segments from a storage box in which paper money in a plurality of segments coexist. SOLUTION: This paper money handling device is provided with a reject box 160 in which reject bills, counterfeits and unknown bills coexist. When an operator issues the recovery instruction of the counterfeits and the unknown bills, the paper money dealing device conveys the paper money from the reject box 160, and selects the counterfeits and the unknown bills to convey them to a money receiving/paying port 111, and conveys the other paper money to a temporary storage cabinet 122. The counterfeits and unknown bills may be selected by discriminating them at the time of recovery, or referring to a database in which discrimination results at the time of reception are managed so as to be associated by paper money units.
