PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmitting shaft having improved strength and stable torsional fatigue strength. SOLUTION: The power transmitting shaft 1 is an integral hollow shaft consisting of a central pipe portion 1a having an outermost diameter part and a shaft portion 1b having a connection part such as a spline on the end outer peripheral face, both of which are integrally formed from the same element pipe. The power transmitting shaft 1 is subjected to high frequency quench hardening treatment so that it has a hardness HRC of 35 or more at a depth being 3/4 of the thickness from the outer diameter face.
