PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating head and a coating apparatus capable of forming a thin film at a high speed without forming fine streaks at equal pitches. SOLUTION: The coating head 10 is to be used for the coating apparatus for applying a coating liquid F to the surface of a continuously running strip-like flexible support W. The coating head 10 is provided with a slit 16 for discharging the coating liquid F from an aperture part on the opposite to the support W in the width direction of the support W. A front edge face 26a is formed on the upstream side of the slit in the running direction of the support and on the opposite to the support and a back edge face 28a is formed on the downstream side of the slit in the running direction of the support and on the opposite to the support. Further, a back edge rear face 28b crossing the back edge face 28a at a prescribed angle is installed. The surface roughness Ra of the back edge rear face 28b is adjusted to be 0.2μm or less in a portion of a prescribed distance L from the position crossing the back edge face 28a.
