A novelty playing die has outer faces with alphanumeric markings. The housing is made of transparent plastic, or at least the windows are, and the inner spherical contour if the die has part spherical recesses corresponding to the windows. An index sphere moves inside the die with its diameter matched to the recesses. The edges of the recesses are rounded and the hollow space between the index sphere and the die is filled with a viscous liquid. The die is made of components which clip together in a unique manner to prevent errors in assembly.
