1,215,446. Automatic oxygen content control. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. Dec.14, 1967 [Jan.6, 1967], No.828/67. Heading G3R. [Also in Divisions B1-2, C6 and G1] In a fermentation process the rate of feed of oxygen containing gas to the fermenter and /or its composition and/or the pressure in the fermenter and/or the rate of stirring of the broth are controlled in response to the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the broth. The dissolved oxygen concentration is monitored by passing a carrier gas substantially freed from oxygen into contact with one side of an oxygen permeable membrane, the fermenter broth being in contact with the other side of the membrane, and then passing the carrier gas to a meter, for example an electrolytic "Hersch cell" (see Group G1) for measurement of its oxygen content. |
