PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume reduction apparatus for a waste resin, which achieves the volume reduction and gelation of a waste resin while having a simple structure and capable of efficiently carrying out a volume reduction treatment. SOLUTION: The volume reduction apparatus has a volume reduction unit 14 comprising the following: a treatment vessel 14a which has a box shape with its bottom part 26 protruding downward when seen laterally and accommodates a waste resin and its volume reducing agent; a screw 28 which has a rotary shaft 30 supported by the treatment vessel 14a and has a helical blade unit 32 of which the end part 28a rotates along the inner peripheral surface of the bottom part 26; and a driving unit for rotating the screw 28. In the treatment vessel 14a, the waste resin is agitated together with the volume reducing agent to be subjected to volume reduction and gelation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
