PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a safe authentication function even if a random number generating function cannot be imparted to the authenticating side. SOLUTION: The authentication unit comprises a section 111 for inputting first information and second information from an external device, an adder 140 for operating the first information to create third information, an encoder 130 for encrypting the third information using specified encryption key information to create fourth information, a section 112 for outputting the third information created by the adder 140 to the external device in order to create the second information, a comparator 150 for making a decision whether the second information inputted from the input section 111 coincides with the fourth information created by the encoder 130 through encryption, and a section 180 for authenticating the external device when a decision is made that they coincide with each other by the comparator 150.
