PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately prevent out of color registration, in particular, to prevent going out of color registration from occurring between a color near to a position for detecting the speed of an intermediate transfer belt and a color shift therefrom. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer belt 10 is held between four photoreceptors 40 and intermediate transfer rollers 62, and also trained about a driving roller 14, a driven roller 15 and a secondary transfer roller 16. When the driving roller 14 is driven by a belt driving motor 90 controlled by a motor control part 94, the intermediate transfer belt 10 is rotated in a direction shown by an arrow. Belt speed detection sensors 93 are respectively arranged between the respective photoreceptors 40, and the control part 94 controls the belt driving motor 90, based on the mean value of the speed detected by the respective speed detection sensors 93.
