PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic manuscript feeder capable of closing a gap which is generated when the automatic manuscript feeder becomes a creased state to prevent a worker from inserting his (or her) finger or the like into the gap and capable of interrupting opening/closing operability from being degraded and to provide an image forming apparatus using the automatic manuscript feeder. SOLUTION: A left hinge 102 on the rear side of the automatic manuscript feeder is provided with a shielding plate 111 on the end part of a frame material 106. A projection 112 is formed on the shielding plate 111 and inserted into a hole formed on the end part of the frame material 106 and the shielding plate 111 is pivotally supported so as to be freely rotated in the vertical direction. The material of the shielding plate 111 is constituted of a non-elastic or less-elastic member having suitable thickness. The gap of the left hinge 102 is closed by the shielding plate 111 even when the automatic manuscript feeder is vertically moved. A right hinge also has the same constitution.
