PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce display trouble caused by fluctuation of pixel holding potential occurring as a result of fluctuation of source bus line potential in the effective display period by making a blanking period apparently longer. SOLUTION: In an active matrix type display device, a data drivers 11A and 11B are disposed on the upper and lower sides with a display section 13 in between, and each source bus line is divided into upper and lower portions and connected to the upper and lower data driver respectively. The effective display period of each of the display areas A and B is provided within the blanking period of the other display area B and A, and is so driven that, in the blanking period of each of the display areas A and B, the average potential of the source bus line in each area becomes almost equal to the average value of the opposite electrode potential.
