PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas barrier film using a polyvinyl alcohol resin in a gas barrier layer, having excellent gas barrier properties even under a high humidity condition exceeding 90% RH and capable of holding the excellent gas barrier properties even after boil treatment in hot water. SOLUTION: The gas barrier film is a laminate including a base material layer comprising a thermoplastic resin film and the gas barrier layer composed of a hydrolysate of a silicon alkoxide, a lamellar silicate and the polyvinyl alcohol resin and characterized in that the domain-to-domain distance d<SB>ND</SB>in the direction vertical to the surface of a film comprising the hydrolysate of the silicon alkoxide in the gas barrier layer measured by small angle X-ray scattering is 6.8 nm or below.
