<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate high quality timbre data corresponding to various renditions (articulation) in an easy, simple and fully controlled manner. <P>SOLUTION: Rendition data which indicate a rendition of performance sound are successively received, a prescribed table is referred to using the received rendition data, and rendition module data corresponding to the rendition data are obtained from the table. Then, timbre is generated on the basis of the obtained rendition module data. The rendition module data present behavior indicated by the timbre to be generated in accordance with the rendition, and the data could include data representing the characteristic behavior of a vector which controls the timbre to be generated. The behavior of the timbre can be defined by various elements.
