摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a set temperature is obtained without causing overshoot. <P>SOLUTION: A temperature detection element 2 is disposed in the vicinity of the roller surface (belt surface) of a fixing device to be controlled. A CPU 5 is mounted in a base engine control unit 4. The temperature detection element 2 detects a thermistor temperature every predetermined control unit time t<SB>0</SB>. Duty (time) for which a heater is turned on is determined by a value obtained by calculating the value of the percentage of the time of the cycle t<SB>0</SB>, for which the heater is turned on, calculating a difference between the temperature detected by the thermistor 2 and the set target temperature, and multiplying the difference by a constant Kp of proportion. The CPU 5 executes a correction operation, taking ambient temperature into account. In the use of the same heater, the same fixing unit, the same power source conditions, and the same temperature detection element, the same heater-temperature-and-time characteristics are obtained. Accordingly, correct correction data are acquired and more accurate control of temperature is realized.
