<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve assembly inexpensive to manufacture. <P>SOLUTION: In general, the valve assembly is disclosed comprising first and second valve plates mounted between a housing for a pump mechanism and a cover. The plate has a flexing flap corresponding to a hole portion in the second plate, and the second plate has a flexing flap corresponding to a hole portion in the first plate. The flexing flaps and the hole portions are received by the pump mechanism. A suction valve and an exhaust valve are formed for fluid to be discharged from the pump mechanism. In several embodiments, the valves are received through a suction port and an exhaust port in a compressor head. They allow easy flow of air to be exhausted.
