PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely feed sheets by supporting laminated sheets under a stable condition and contacting a feeding roll on a top face in a sheet feeder sequentially feeding sheets laminated on an elevating plate one by one from an uppermost layer. SOLUTION: In this device, sheets are horizontally loaded on an adjusting plate 12 in a sheet tray 11, and the adjusting plate 12 is elevated by an elevating mechanism 13 so as to adjust the sheets to a paper feeding height. The elevating mechanism 13 has two drive shafts 21, 22 arranged perpendicular to a feeding direction of the sheets in parallel to a bottom face of the sheet tray 11, supporting members 23, 24 affixed to the drive shafts 21, 22, and a drive device 25 rotary driving the drive shaft. The front and rear supporting members 23, 24 are rotary driven with one end as a center, respectively, and are raised upward under a condition that they are maintained in parallel to each other.
