Within a radio access network, a mobile terminal user receives a page to request establishment of a connection, such as after the user has idled a previous connection to conserve resources. The network effectively pages a user by broadcasting a beacon signal that includes a paging request indicator (202) that indicates whether the beacon signal seeks to page a particular mobile terminal user. If so, then the beacon signal further includes the address (206) of the terminal with whom a connection is sought.
