PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper money identifying device by a highly reliable reflective sensor. SOLUTION: In this paper money identifying device, a conveyance path is formed between a first panel and a second panel, and the first panel is formed with a first identification opening protruding to the conveyance path direction, and the second panel is formed with a second identification opening protruding to the conveyance path direction at the site faced to the first identification opening, and a reflective sensor for irradiating paper money conveyed in the conveyance path with lights, and for receiving the reflected lights is formed in the first identification opening, and the output pattern of the reflective sensor accompanied with the conveyance of paper money in the conveyance path is compared with a preliminarily stored standard pattern so that the paper money can be identified, and the output characteristics of the reflective sensor are calibrated by using the reflected lights. A reflecting member constituted of a white system whose upper face is vertically faced to the site opposite to the reflective sensor of the first panel is mounted in the second identification opening by a mounting means.
