PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liner for printing, giving high gloss in gravure printing, flexographic printing, offset printing and ink-jet recording, improving the ink receptivity and preventing the peeling off of the ink by the rubbing action after printing and the generation of thin spot caused by the deficient build-up of the ink in printing. SOLUTION: The liner for printing is composed of at least two paper layers comprising the surface layer and the back layer. Recycled pulp and/or bleached kraft pulp containing 5-50 wt.% NBKP (needle bleached kraft pulp) and having a freeness of 300-450 cc is used in the surface layer, and the surface of the surface layer is coated with a coating agent composed at least of an inorganic pigment, a binder and a surface sizing agent at an application rate of 0.1-5 g/m<SP>2</SP>.
