<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an image forming apparatus low in cost, small in occupancy space and long in service life by preventing electrifying failure caused by the sticking of foreign matter such as toner to a photoreceptor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an electrifying member (CRy) which electrifies the surface of the photoreceptor (Pk); a latent image forming device which forms an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the photoreceptor (Pk); and a developing unit (Gk) which develops the electrostatic latent image. The apparatus further includes: a current detecting contact member (T1k) which is in contact with the surface of the photoreceptor (Pk) and allows a current to flow between the surface of the photoreceptor (Pk) and the contact member (T1k); a current value detecting means (SN1) which detects the values (11 and 12) of the currents flowing in the current detecting contact member (T1k); a refresh cycle executing means which recovers toner sticking to the surface of the photoreceptor (Pk); and a refresh cycle end determining means which determines the end of the photoreceptor refresh cycle based on the current values (11 and 12) detected by the current value detecting means (SN1). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
