DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method of driving a plasma display panel that improves the image quality by changing the scanning pulse width depending on presence or absence of data.

SOLUTION: The plasma display panel drive device for the first embodiment has: a plasma display panel to display video data; a data detector to check whether there is the data supplied from the input line; an average luminance level calculating section to generate an average luminance level signal matching the steps of the sustaining pulses supplied to the above panel depending on the signals of the above data detector checking the presence or absence of the data; and a timing controller to change the number of the sustaining pulses supplied to the panel matching the above average luminance level signals, while changing the scanning pulse width supplied to the panel depending on the signals of the above data detector checking the presence or absence of the data.
