PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope tester which can inspect damage of a plurality of wire ropes relatively efficiently and simultaneously, can simplify the inspection, and improve the efficiency of the inspection. SOLUTION: In the rope tester, the wire ropes under passage is magnetized by permanent magnets, and magnetic leakage flux generated when a wire breaks is detected by a detection coil. A detector has a plurality of parallel guide passages for guiding the plurality of wire ropes. A magnetic circuit member including the permanent magnet and a magnetization detecting body having a detection coil member are disposed under each guide passage. Adjacent magnetization detecting bodies are mutually shifted in the longitudinal direction of a groove, and magnetic poles of permanent magnets are arranged in the opposite direction.
