PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device of an elevator which has a reflector in an elevator shaft and a detector facing the reflector, is of position detection type where the detecting device detects flood light of the detector from the reflector and operates, and does not cause malfunction by disturbance light generated in the shaft. SOLUTION: Disturbance light shielding plates 12 are disposed projectedly on both sides of a horizontal projection surface of the reflector 10 disposed in the shaft 1, and are extended vertically longer than the vertical length of the reflector 10. Thus, when a car 3 moves up and down in the shaft 1 having an opening, the disturbance light generated when natural light or the like comes into the shaft 1 and reflects on the inner wall is shielded by the disturbance light shielding plate 12. Therefore, the malfunction of the detector 5 by the disturbance light generated in the shaft 1 is prevented, and the generation of an abnormal operation caused by incorrect detection of the car 3 position is eliminated.
