The present invention relates to a novel therapeutic use of 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, 4-hydroxybenzyl aldehyde and vanillin. More particularly, the invention relates to a method for treating ischemic brain disease comprising administering 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, 4-hydroxybenzyl aldehyde and vanillin into a subject, and a method for inhibiting neuronal injury caused by ischemia and reperfusion comprising administering 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, 4-hydroxybenzyl aldehyde and vanillin into a subject.
