The motor vehicle, and especially a sports car, has a center section with first and second upright transverse wall structures to which are connected the front and rear section. The center section (3) in the region of the second transverse wall structure (7) has an accommodating space for a fuel tank which is covered by means of the rear section (5). At least one deformation support (15,16) leads away from the center section in the region of the first transverse wall structure (6), whereby the front section and the rear section are rigidly connected to the center section. An independent claim is included for a method for the manufacture of the body of a motor vehicle in which deformation supports are fastened on the stud bolts of a first transverse wall structure of the center section and the rear section is fastened on the stud bolts of a second transverse wall structure of the center section.
