A plasma display panel is provided to achieve improved brightness of a screen by increasing an aperture ratio, and improved efficiency by limiting rise of a discharge current and reducing power consumption. A plasma display panel comprises a first substrate(2) and a second substrate(4) opposed with each other; address electrodes(12) formed on a surface of the first substrate, opposed to the first substrate; barrier ribs(6) disposed in the space formed between the first substrate and the second substrate so as to define discharge cells(8R,8G,8B); red, green and blue phosphor layers(16R,16G,16B) formed in the respective discharge cells; and discharge sustain electrodes(18) formed on a surface of the second substrate, opposed to the first substrate, along the direction orthogonal to the address electrodes. Each of the discharge cells shares at least one discharge sustain electrode with the discharge cells in the adjacent column. The area occupied by one of the discharge cells is different from the area occupied by another discharge cell opposed to one of the discharge cells. |
