A microcatheter having a guidewire port that is positioned proximal of the distal end of the microcatheter in order to provide rapid exchange capabilit y. The guidewire port includes provisions that permit guidewire access into a lumen of the microcatheter while providing a relatively fluid tight seal at least when the guidewire is not present in the guidewire port.
