PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molded object such as an optical element, which has good optical performance by enhancing positional accuracy of optical surfaces, and a mold assembly which can stabilize the molding quality of the molded object. SOLUTION: This mold assembly 1 for forming the molded object by using a thermoplastic resin comprises: a fixed-side mold plate 4; a movable-side mold plate 5; cores 6 which are each embedded in mold plate pockets 40 and 40a of the respective mold plates, and wherein a void 15 is provided between at least either of the cores 6 and a side surface of the mold plate pocket; and a core positioning means which enables the core to be moved in a direction orthogonal to the opening/closing direction of the mold plate 5 with respect to the mold plate 4.
